About the Role

Teaching Personnel are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism in a supportive primary school in Horsham.

This role involves working closely with a non-verbal pupil with Autism, supporting their learning, communication, and emotional regulation throughout the school day. You will collaborate with the class teacher and SEN team to deliver structured support strategies that promote engagement, independence, and wellbeing.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in SEN support, Autism support, care work, youth work, or education support roles.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 SEN support for a pupil with Autism within the classroom

Assist with learning activities and classroom engagement

Support communication development using visual supports and structured strategies

Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation

Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team

Help the pupil participate in school activities and social interaction

Monitor progress and provide feedback to the teaching team

Candidate Requirements

Experience supporting children with Autism or Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Background in schools, care settings, support work, youth work, or similar roles

Patient, compassionate, and consistent approach

Understanding of non-verbal communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or visual aids (desirable but not essential)

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Commitment to a full-time Monday–Friday position Term Time

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
