Senior Buyer – Kent

I’m currently partnering with a leading UK housebuilder to recruit an experienced Senior Buyer to join their Kent division.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing commercial team within a well-established and award-winning residential developer. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for materials procurement, cost control, and financial reporting across multiple live construction sites.


The Role

As Senior Buyer, you will:


  • Take ownership of materials procurement across designated sites
  • Manage cost control and ensure strong commercial performance
  • Consolidate purchases to achieve maximum economic benefit
  • Negotiate agreements with suppliers and manufacturers
  • Analyse quotations, prepare tender documentation, and place orders
  • Prepare material cost budgets (CPC1) and provide cost advice to Surveyors
  • Monitor delivery schedules in line with build programmes
  • Resolve discrepancies between orders, goods received and invoices
  • Attend site meetings at key project stages
  • Monitor rebate agreements and market trends to identify cost-saving opportunities


Build strong working relationships across commercial, construction and supply chain teams

This role requires someone commercially astute, highly organised, and comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.


What My Client Is Looking For

  • Proven experience in a purchasing role (construction sector preferred)
  • Strong commercial awareness and cost management capability
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong numerical and analytical ability
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team


Desirable:

  • Working towards CIPS (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of construction regulations and materials
  • Experience using COINS
  • Strong MS Office skills
