Job Description

We’re fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. We welcome flexible working patterns, including compressed hours. Such broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams. Together, we’ll promote sustainable growth, tackle climate change, contribute to nature’s recovery and secure a better future for everyone.

Role Overview

As a Senior Estates Surveyor, you’ll work collaboratively within project teams to deliver a nationwide £5.4 billion programme of capital flood defence work, involving compensation negotiations, land acquisition, and access rights. Your expertise will be vital in managing a diverse land and property portfolio, extending to 25,000ha of commercial and rural land. Your experience should include property management, valuation, and landlord/tenant issues. You’ll be a confident negotiator, representing our interests with a broad client base.

You will handle complex cases, act as the Estates lead on projects like the Boston Barrier Scheme, and support others by sharing knowledge of legislation and best practices. You’ll join the Hub leadership team to help manage delivery and reputational risks. While much work is in-house, some projects will involve working with suppliers via framework contracts.

Responding to incidents is also part of the role, so you should be prepared to respond or provide business continuity support when needed.

The Estates Team

The Estates Team is part of Corporate and National Services within the Strategy, Transformation & Assurance directorate. It comprises 130 professionals specializing in land, property, compensation, and valuation matters, focusing on negotiations and claims related to our work.
