Senior Investment Manager

New Today

The Stone Family Foundation is seeking a Senior Investment Manager to join its high-impact, entrepreneurial team. The role will suit a seasoned operator in the impact space, with an understanding of how different types of finance are used as tools to achieve impact, including through project, blended, and results-based finance. This is not a traditional grant-making role; it is an opportunity to lead at the intersection of philanthropy, blended finance, and systems change. Key Responsibilities:
Pipeline development: Source and assess investment opportunities that advance our Water to the Home strategy, alongside other funders and actors in the sector. Due diligence, investment structuring and execution: Lead due diligence, including site visits, design impact-first investments using a range of tools, and present high-quality investment proposals to our investment committee. Portfolio support: Monitor investee performance, flag issues, and work with investees to improve performance. Identify insights and lessons to feed into Stone’s strategy and approach. Cambodia financing facility: Manage and oversee our loan facility to support water operators in Cambodia, working closely with local partners and financing institutions to increase our impact, and refining our approach as we scale up. Strategy: Work with the Managing Director to evolve the Foundation’s investment strategy, and the role of different tools to support our goals. Contribute to Board papers and presentations, translating technical recommendations into clear decisions. External engagement and thought leadership: Represent Stone with partners and at events to share our insights, and to build our profile and credibility with the sector.
This hands-on role requires international travel to our focus regions in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central America, (6+ trips/year) allowing you to directly drive impact and build key relationships on the ground. Experience sought:
Development Finance & Investment Expertise: A background in project finance, consulting, or impact investing with a track record of sourcing and structuring investments or grants is strongly preferred. Emerging Markets & Travel Commitment: Proven experience with investment or the development sector in the Global South, and a strong willingness and ability to travel regularly for due diligence, portfolio support, and stakeholder engagement. Analytical & Operational Excellence: Strong financial analysis, due diligence, and project management skills, with the ability to write high-quality investment cases and execute independently. Stakeholder Influence: Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior leaders and diverse stakeholders to build partnerships and deliver complex projects. Sector Knowledge: An understanding of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector— including challenges faced by utilities and governments, is a strong advantage. Adaptive Mindset: A systems thinker comfortable with ambiguity and complexity, and working in a small team focused on delivery in challenging markets.
This is a rare opportunity to own and lead transformative projects, solve complex problems, and to work autonomously in a supportive, non-hierarchical team. You will be trying to think differently to deliver tangible, lasting change. The role is pivotal to Stone’s mission; designing and delivering investments that strengthen the water sector and demonstrate that delivering services can be financially sustainable and scalable. Success in this role means taking full ownership of projects, driving them from concept to execution and delivering investments that deliver impact on the ground. If you are passionate about systems change, eager to take ownership, and play a key role in creating sustainable and scalable market-based solutions to water access, we encourage you to apply prior to the deadline of the 16th January.
