Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer\n\nLocation: West Midlands\n\nSalary: £55,000\n\nJob Description\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading UK engineering business specialising in bespoke lifting and material handling equipment. This is a key role within a multidisciplinary engineering team, offering the opportunity to work on complex, safety-critical systems across industries such as rail, construction, utilities, and aerospace.\n\nJob Responsibilities\n\n * Lead the design and development of bespoke mechanical lifting and handling equipment\n\n * Produce detailed 3D models and 2D technical drawings using CAD software\n\n * Perform engineering calculations including stress analysis and load assessments\n\n * Ensure all designs comply with applicable UK and international standards\n\n * Collaborate with electrical, hydraulic, and manufacturing teams\n\n * Support prototype builds, testing, and manufacturing processes\n\nSkills Required\n\n * Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline\n\n * Strong experience in mechanical design within heavy engineering or special purpose machinery\n\n * Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Vault\n\n * Strong understanding of engineering principles, stress analysis, and design standards\n\n * Familiarity with BS standards\n\n * Knowledge of hydraulic and/or electrical systems (desirable)\n\n * Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail\n\n * Ability to manage projects and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams\n\nCompensation & Other Benefits\n\n * Competitive salary (dependent on experience)\n\n * Hybrid working options\n\n * Opportunity for career progression into senior leadership roles\n\n * Involvement in high-profile, technically challenging projects\n\n * Supportive and collaborative working environment\n\n * Professional development and training opportunities\n\nApply within or contact Levi Goodridge at Sapien Engineering.\n\nPlease note that our clients are unable to offer sponsorship for employment visas.
