Job Title: Senior Planning Engineer\nLocation: Manchester\nDuration: 12 months - Outside IR35\n\nWe are recruiting a Senior Planning Engineer for a 12-month contract based in Manchester, supporting a client that delivers railway automation and telecommunication solutions worldwide.\n\nAs a senior member of the planning function, you will lead the project planning and control activities on a major project or manage multiple smaller projects. You will be a key member of the project delivery team, supporting senior project and programme managers to ensure the successful planning and delivery of projects.\n\nKey Duties & Responsibilities:\n\nProvide planning and controls leadership across your projects.\n\nAct as the technical planning expert, ensuring consistent application of standards, procedures, templates, and guidance within your project team.\n\nWork closely with project, commercial, and finance managers to develop, maintain, and resource/cost-load accurate project schedules.\n\nLiaise with site and possession planners to align activities with the main project schedule.\n\nSupport the Bids & Tendering team in developing tender plans and transitioning them into contract plans.\n\nBuild and maintain strong relationships with client representatives, working collaboratively to deliver efficient planning and control solutions.\n\nPerform critical path analysis and highlight actions and areas of concern.\n\nProvide periodic reporting (KPIs, earned value, schedule delay, critical path analysis) for internal and client requirements.\n\nConduct analysis and scenario modelling for project changes, providing risks, issues, cost, resource, and delay analysis.\n\nPromote and improve planning and controls practices within the organisation.\n\nEssential Requirements:\n\nDegree/HND/HNC qualification or equivalent experience.\n\nExperience in planning major infrastructure projects, preferably within the rail industry.\n\nExperience working with senior management both internally and within client organisations.\n\nAdvanced Primavera (P6) expertise, with knowledge of other planning tools such as MS Project.\n\nDesirable Requirements:\n\nTechnical, Engineering, or Business background with knowledge of railway signalling.\n\nKnowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Prince 2).\n\nExperience leading a planning team delivering major infrastructure projects, preferably in the rail industry.\n\n--- Fusion People are committed to promoting equal opportunities to people regardless of , , , belief, , sexuality or .
