Principal Product Manager - Climate, Physical and Nature Risk Models
Hybrid: 3 days / week in Cambridge, UK
Above and Beyond Recruitment is proud to be partnering with Risilience to hire a Principal Product Manager to drive their mission of enabling businesses to effectively navigate the profound changes brought about by climate and wider environmental changes.
They have developed a unique modelling and analytics platform to help international corporations assess their risks and opportunities presented by rising temperatures, climate-related policy, and emerging technologies.
Their SaaS solutions help companies produce climate-related compliance analytics, navigate their pathway to Net Zero, and perform scientifically based cost benefit comparisons of emission reduction strategies. They also offer enterprise-level risk analytics for a wide variety of non-climate-change threats and trends.
Risilience has a blue-chip client base with a growing list of globally recognised brands. The pedigree of their solutions is supported by their deep academic roots that go back to the Business School in the University of Cambridge (UK) and the close ties they maintain to the Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies.
The business received Series B funding in early 2023 and is growing rapidly towards the next round of investment.
The key responsibilities are to oversee current and future physical climate and nature risk models to support the development agenda and commercial success of these solutions.
You will be the central point of contact for understanding market needs, defining the product roadmap, and ensuring their offerings deliver exceptional value to their clients. Your deep expertise in geospatial risk modelling, coupled with strong client engagement and product management skills, will be crucial in driving the adoption and evolution of these critical solutions.
In this role, you will:
- Engage with clients and client-facing teams to understand their business objectives and develop and prioritise market requirements to inform product strategy and roadmap.
- Create, maintain, and communicate a clear and compelling product roadmap for physical climate and nature risk modelling solutions.
- Act as a physical risk domain specialist, representing Risilience in client discussions, delivering in-depth technical presentations that communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Enable the sales team by providing them with the necessary knowledge, tools, and support to effectively position and sell their physical risk modelling solutions.
- Collaborate effectively with multiple engineering teams, as well as marketing, consulting, and support, to ensure successful product development, launch, and ongoing support.
- Geospatial Risk Modelling Expertise: A solid, practical understanding of how to model environmental risks (climate and nature) using geospatial data and techniques. This includes knowledge of relevant data sources, methodologies, and tools.
- Client Engagement: Exceptional communication (verbal and written), presentation, and interpersonal skills are crucial for understanding client needs, delivering compelling presentations, and building strong relationships.
- Product Management Proficiency: Proven experience in the product lifecycle, from ideation and market research to roadmap creation, requirements gathering, and working with engineering teams.
- Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities to analyse market data, understand complex models, and translate client needs into actionable product requirements.
- Collaboration: The ability to work effectively with and coordinate across multiple internal teams (engineering, sales, marketing, support) is essential for successful product development and delivery.
- Adaptability: Comfort and effectiveness in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with the ability to manage time well and handle ambiguity.
Desired Skills
- 5-7 years of product management experience in a B2B business context, ideally working on data and analytics products.
- Experience with catastrophe risk models and or climate change forecast data (e.g. CMIP6)
- Knowledge of nature related risks and associated data sets including WRI, IBAT and ENCORE
- Familiarity with corporate regulatory frameworks including CSRD, TNFD, ISSB
- Experience in Corporates, Financial Services, or Insurance industries beneficial.
Benefits include competitive base salary, annual discretionary bonus, employer pension contributions, private medical insurance, flexible working, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Company Values
We start with the facts - We grasp the facts first and give opinions second to make positive moves that matter. We are insights-driven; understanding our customers’ challenges to meet their needs and inform company strategy.
We lead with integrity - We show respect for others in every interaction.
Professionalism is about ownership: we take responsibility and do what we say we will.
We are curious challengers - Complex problems don’t scare us – they fuel us. We collaborate and innovate to remove complexity and enable positive transformation for ourselves and our clients.
We win together - We value every voice equally, embracing differences in background, expertise and experience. We leave our egos at the door, lift each other up and align our direction of travel.
Diversity and Inclusion
Risilience is committed to a proactive approach to equality, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture and values diversity. Entry into employment is determined by personal merit and by the application of criteria required for the post. No applicant for an appointment or member of staff will be treated less favourably than another on the grounds of sex (including gender reassignment), marital or parental status, race, ethnic or national origin, colour, disability (including HIV status), sexual orientation, religion, age or socio-economic factors.
Information if you have a Disability
Risilience welcomes applications from individuals with disabilities and is committed to ensuring fair treatment throughout the recruitment process. Adjustments will be made, wherever reasonable to do so, to enable applicants to compete to the best of their ability and, if successful, to assist them during their employment.
We encourage applicants to declare their disabilities in order that any special arrangements, particularly for the selection process, can be accommodated. Applicants or employees can declare a disability at any time.
