Job Description
Senior Project Architect (Consultant) – Remote
Biocontainment & Complex Systems
Contract | Fully Remote (UK) | £55 to £65 per hour
This role is designed for a seasoned architect or an experienced architectural consultant who wants to continue working on serious, challenging projects, while enjoying the flexibility of a fully remote, non-traditional working model.
If you have built deep expertise in complex, high-compliance environments and are now looking for a role that offers intellectual challenge, autonomy and balance… this opportunity is worth your attention.
We are working with a specialist, highly talented design and advisory firm that operates globally across some of the most complex and regulated project environments, including biocontainment, laboratories, metallurgy, advanced manufacturing and industrial facilities.
They work in a deliberately non-traditional way…
Lean and expert-driven
Remote-first by design, not by compromise
Embedded as trusted advisors to their clients
Their projects are global, their clients are sophisticated and their focus is firmly on getting complex projects right from the start.
The Opportunity…
You will take full ownership of early-stage projects across RIBA Stages 0 to 3, working directly with clients and acting as a senior technical and design authority.
This is not a pure production role but it does require a willingness to get hands-on when it adds value. From time to time, you will contribute directly in Revit, particularly when developing, testing or clarifying complex technical ideas. The emphasis is on credibility, clarity, and problem-solving, not volume delivery.
The role is strategic and client-side in nature, suited to someone who enjoys shaping how complex projects are set up from the outset, assessed through the lens of risk, compliance, and long-term operational impact… and who is comfortable supporting that thinking with technical output when appropriate.
You will be trusted to…
Lead workstreams independently
Exercise sound professional judgement
Identify risk early and understand its implications
Know when to escalate issues and when to resolve them directly
Operating at the intersection of design, risk, science, engineering and compliance, you will help clients navigate complexity with clarity and confidence.
What You Will Be Doing…
This role is client-side in nature. You will work as an extension of the client team, representing their interests rather than purely delivering traditional consultant packages….
Leading complex early-stage projects (RIBA 0 to 3) and setting them up for long-term success on behalf of the client
Acting as the client’s technical and design representative, safeguarding their business case, risk profile, and long-term operational interests
Developing, testing and reviewing design strategies for biocontainment, metallurgy/metal refining, and other high-compliance facilities… including hands-on Revit input where it adds value
Coordinating complex, multidisciplinary systems and interfaces across consultant and specialist teams
Operating as a trusted client-side advisor, providing clear, proactive communication and sound technical judgement
Identifying, managing, and mitigating risk throughout design development, escalating issues appropriately when required
Working fully remotely while collaborating with global project teams and stakeholders
Adapting quickly to client-specific tools, software and workflows
What You’ll Bring…
(Essential)
Deep experience in biocontainment (BSL labs, containment strategies, safety systems)
Experience in metallurgy / metal refining or similarly complex industrial environments
Strong ability to design and integrate complex technical systems
High level of autonomy, sound judgement, and comfort operating independently
Strong Revit capability and advanced MS Office / Excel skills
(Highly Advantageous, not essential)
Data analytics capability (Power BI or similar)
Experience in chemistry labs, GMP or highly regulated technical facilities
Highly organised, analytical, and methodical working style
Why This Role Stands Out…
Fully remote - work from anywhere in the UK
Challenging global projects - without the lifestyle trade-offs
Competitive contract rate - £55 to £65 per hour
Non-traditional consultancy model - flat, senior-led, no bureaucracy
Autonomy and trust - you run your own projects
Continuous learning - every project brings new technical challenges
This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior professional who wants to stay close to complex, meaningful work, remain intellectually stimulated and enjoy the freedom of a flexible, remote-first consulting role.
