Senior Quantity Surveyor Opportunity

An established, Tier 1 main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex, high-value public sector schemes is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Major Projects team. With a secure pipeline of work across the West Midlands, this role will primarily support projects delivered through frameworks with the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence and Department for Education, with scope to expand into other sectors.

This opportunity has arisen due to continued growth and a strong forward order book of large, complex build schemes. It offers the chance to play a key commercial role on high-profile projects within a well-structured and highly respected division.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for:

• Leading the commercial management of large-scale build projects from pre-construction through to final account
• Managing subcontract procurement, negotiation, and appointment
• Overseeing cost reporting, forecasting, and budget control to ensure financial targets are achieved
• Administering contracts (typically JCT/NEC forms) and managing risk and change control procedures
• Preparing and presenting accurate CVRs and financial reports to senior stakeholders
• Managing and mentoring junior commercial team members
• Ensuring compliance with framework requirements and public sector procurement processes
• Building strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners

Successful Senior QS Requirements:

• Ideally degree qualified or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
• Proven experience operating as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a Tier 1 or leading main contractor environment
• Demonstrable track record delivering large-scale build projects (ideally within public sector frameworks)
• Strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT forms of contract
• Experience managing projects from pre-construction through to final account
• Excellent commercial acumen with strong cost reporting and forecasting skills
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across complex project environments
• Experience mentoring or overseeing junior commercial staff

Other Desirable skills include:

• Previous experience working on custodial, defence, or education schemes
• MRICS accreditation (or working towards)
