Senior Quantity Surveyor – London Docklands

We are currently seeking an experienced and driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join high‑performing project team in London. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working on major, high‑profile developments and thrive in a fast‑paced, commercially focused environment.


Role Purpose

To lead and manage the commercial function across multiple projects, maximising commercial returns while maintaining strong, positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee commercial and cost management activities, ensuring strong tracking of budgets, forecasts, deliverables, and cost‑control procedures.
  • Lead commercial planning, strategy, and implementation across all assigned projects.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of tender documentation, identifying risks, opportunities, and potential gains.
  • Review, assess, and approve selected contractors and suppliers.
  • Ensure all contractual correspondence is delivered in line with contract terms, including detailed EOT analysis and claims handling.
  • Monitor project performance to ensure delivery within programme and budget.
  • Support the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Produce accurate reporting of actual costs vs. estimates, investigate variances, and propose corrective actions.
  • Present commercial reports that outline progress, potential issues, and solutions.
  • Maintain close communication with clients, ensuring objectives are met through proactive cost control and contractual support.
  • Prepare and manage subcontracts in line with agreed scope, ensuring clear documentation, communication, payments, compensation events, and programme submissions.
  • Ensure project teams clearly understand contractual requirements and deliver in line with client expectations.


Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying / Construction Economics or an equivalent recognised qualification (RICS / SCSI beneficial).
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience working as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally across large‑scale construction projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen with an excellent understanding of the current market.
  • In‑depth knowledge of industry‑standard forms of contract (JCT, FIDIC, RIAI etc.).
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and secure repeat business.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to critically evaluate technical and contractual documents.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Able to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, including PQS, design, commercial, and site operations.
