An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced
Service Manager
to join the
Family Support & Safeguarding (Long Term Children in Need / Child Protection) Team
in
Dagenham . This senior leadership role focuses on providing strategic oversight and operational management to ensure high-quality services for children and families. You will lead multiple managers and teams, ensuring statutory duties are fulfilled, performance standards are achieved, and service improvements are continuously implemented. Key Responsibilities
Provide strong, visible leadership and professional supervision to motivate, manage, and develop staff to deliver high-quality services
Directly supervise and appraise managers responsible for teams of Social Workers, Intervention Workers, partners, and students
Ensure an effective duty system is in place across the service area
Monitor service performance using electronic systems to ensure targets are met and risks are addressed promptly
Oversee the allocation, progression, and closure of casework across the service
Maintain oversight of court-related work and ensure compliance with court timetables, working closely with legal teams
Conduct regular audits of casework and use findings to drive continuous improvement in practice standards
Provide operational performance reports to Children's Leadership to support strategic oversight
Ensure statutory responsibilities are fulfilled for children under
Children Act 1989 , including Children in Need, Child Protection, and Children in Care
Lead service development initiatives and implement new approaches to improve outcomes for children and families
Chair complex meetings including legal planning meetings, pre-proceedings meetings, and strategy meetings
Ensure case recording is completed to a consistently high standard and within statutory timescales
Manage delegated service budgets and ensure financial accountability and compliance with council policies
Keep senior leadership informed of risks, safeguarding concerns, and significant case developments
Essential Requirements
Recognised Social Work qualification (BA / MA / DipSW / CQSW or equivalent)
Registration with
Social Work England
or eligibility to register
Accredited management qualification or equivalent leadership experience
Extensive experience within
Children's Social Care and Safeguarding services
Strong understanding of statutory frameworks, safeguarding procedures, and court processes
Demonstrated leadership and service management experience
