Site Manager – Electrical Engineering


Location: Staffordshire Office/UK Client Sites (Nationwide Travel Required)

About the Role


My client are looking to recruit an experienced Site Manager with a strong Electrical Engineering background to support the delivery of complex energy infrastructure projects across the UK.

This role is predominantly site-based and will involve managing the safe, high-quality installation, commissioning and customer acceptance of Protection, Control, Automation and Electrical systems at transmission substations, large generators and industrial client sites.

You will take full responsibility for safety, quality, time and specification, leading multi-disciplinary site teams and subcontractors while ensuring compliance with all regulatory, safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities


  • Manage the installation, commissioning and customer acceptance of Protection, Control, Automation and Electrical installations across the Energy Sector, ensuring delivery to safety, quality, programme and specification
  • Lead and manage site teams including Site Technicians, Hardware Engineers, Commissioning Engineers, Software Engineers and subcontractors
  • Supervise electrical, mechanical, cabling, lifting and delivery subcontractors
  • Chair pre-start meetings, site progress meetings and coordination meetings with clients, producing associated minutes
  • Develop, review and implement site documentation including Construction Phase Plans, SHE plans, RAMS, site inductions and waste management plans
  • Ensure works comply with CDM Regulations 2015 and relevant industry standards
  • Carry out site surveys to support tendering and project delivery
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, project management and SHEQ teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Liaise with Project Management to ensure adequate site resources are planned and managed
  • Support the identification and management of changes to scope, programme and cost
  • Assist with electrical installation, testing and commissioning activities where required
  • Control site drawings, documentation and Installation & Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Organise site welfare, tools and equipment
  • Monitor site activities and assess the competence of staff and contractors


Candidate Profile


  • Proven experience as a Site Manager with an electrical installation background
  • Strong understanding of electrical and minor mechanical installation practices
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and engineering documentation
  • Good working knowledge of UK construction and CDM Regulations 2015
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
  • Structured, analytical approach to work
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
  • Current National Grid Competent Person
  • Experience working to National Grid procedures and standards
  • Authorised as SR163 (previously TP137) Site Manager
  • Experience delivering substation Protection & Control projects
  • Understanding of Impressed Voltages and associated risks


Qualifications & Training (Essential or Highly Desirable):

  • BS 7671 18th Edition
  • CITB Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) or equivalent
  • Health & safety training (e.g. IOSH, CITB, RoSPA, BSC)
  • Temporary Works Coordination / Supervision
  • First Aid at Work
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Working at Height, Confined Spaces, Manual Handling
  • Lifting Operations (Appointed Person / Slinger / Banksman)
  • Understanding of UK Environmental and Waste Management legislation
