Social Worker (Learning Disability Service)

Midlothian Council are seeking to recruit two Social Workers for the Learning Disability Team. The social worker will be responsible for assessing and providing social work and social care services to adults with Learning Disabilities, some of whom will have complex care needs and will be expected to have or develop expertise in assessment and care management thus service user group. Duties will also include managing a complex workload, chairing meetings and reviews, undertaking adult support and protection activities and participating in case conferences. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with individuals with a learning disability and their families are essential. The social worker will work be required to work closely with care providers to manage and oversee care provision. In addition, the social worker will work closely with health professionals and in particular the Community Learning Disability Team. The social worker will work as part of a wider team of social work and OT team and where necessary will provide support to other teams and undertake specific pieces of work relevant to all practice teams. Consideration may be given to those wishing to work part time, subject to the needs of the team. A degree in Social Work and registration with the SSSC as a Social Worker is essential a Diploma in Social Work with SSSC registration as a social worker is an acceptable alternative together with a Mental Health Officer academic qualification.
