The purpose of this role is to influence a real step change in the carbon and environmental culture, capability, and performance, in order to build a culture dedicated to continuous improvement and best practice.
This stand-alone role is based within their Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality team, and will support all areas of the business and our clients with specialist advice and support. This role requires a collaborative approach as you will be facilitating cross-function engagement with our senior team on strategy development and implementation.
Key Responsibilities -
Developing and implementing meaningful carbon reduction strategies in line with our business plan and the objectives of our clients.
Maintaining environmental compliance and controls in line with ISO 14001, PAS 2080 and industry best practice
Actively identifying and implementing sustainability best practice trends (e.g. carbon accounting, biodiversity improvement, circular economy, social impact, etc.)
Act as the main point of contact with the Environment Agency, other enforcing authorities and external audit bodies as required.
Collate, review and approve monthly environmental reports, environmental investigations and support internal/legal compliance audits/inspections and develop action plans to embed continuous improvement.
Develop education and training collateral on carbon, environmental & sustainability matters to ensure everyone knows their statutory duties and responsibilities.
Act as a trusted advisor in all matters of sustainability and environmental management including maintaining compliance with environmental consents and permits.
Keeping up to date with related legislation to develop an approach to education and communication to implement activities in order to meet legislative requirements.
Working with the relevant communications team on developing a portfolio of communication activities (internal and external) to promote sustainability and report on progress, e.g. annual report content, case studies, sustainability reports, blogs, website content, etc.
Provide thought provoking content when representing the company at industry eventsRequirements -
Environmental or Sustainability qualification or other relevant subject, to degree level is essential or experience of working in with environmental management/sustainability frameworks.
Audit qualifications & experience of ISO 14001 and Pas2080 management systems highly desirable
Detailed knowledge of Environmental Legislation desirable
Experience in Permitting and Waste Management implementation desirable.
Experience with Carbon data and reporting essential
Previous experience of implementing a carbon reduction, sustainability strategy across a similar type of business desirable
