About Sizewell C
Sizewell C is a major nuclear new build project in Suffolk, following the success of Hinkley Point C. It aims to provide reliable electricity for 6 million homes over 60 years, supporting the UK’s Net Zero target by 2050. The project has obtained planning approval, government support, and has commenced construction.
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly capable Technical Engineering Manager to oversee the end-to-end design process within the Civil Works Programme, ensuring timely delivery, safety, and regulatory compliance in a Design & Build environment. You will be part of our Technical Directorate, reporting to the Programme Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Define technical requirements and oversee contractor design work.
- Manage design changes and ensure safety and regulatory inputs are integrated.
- Validate technical requirements and align with standards and safety expectations.
- Collaborate with Responsible Designer and Civil Works Alliance to align design delivery with construction schedules.
- Maintain configuration control and lead technical reviews.
- Make decisions at project Hold Points, especially for marine and tunnelling works.
- Identify and manage technical risks impacting cost, schedule, and quality.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience in Heavy Civil engineering (e.g., tunnels, shafts, reinforced concrete, structural steel).
- Marine works experience (offshore shafts, temporary and permanent works).
- Managing complex, multidisciplinary design teams.
- Knowledge of UK and British design standards.
- Proven technical leadership in delivery-focused teams.
- Experience working in matrixed, multi-disciplinary projects.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable
- Experience in the nuclear sector.
