Job Description

At the Environment Agency, we are fully committed to building an inclusive workforce that reflects the diverse communities we serve. Diversity isn’t just a value we talk about — it’s something we actively seek, embrace, and embed in everything we do. It strengthens our teams, enriches our perspectives, and enhances the outcomes we deliver for people and the environment.

Role Overview

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the estuarine and coastal environment? Our vision is a thriving estuarine and coastal landscape — protected, restored, and resilient — for the benefit of both people and wildlife. If you have the talent, drive, and commitment to help us realise this vision, we’d love to hear from you.

This role supports our Restoring Meadows, Marsh and Reef (ReMeMaRe) initiative, aiming to restore 15% of priority estuarine and coastal habitats by 2043, including saltmarsh, seagrass, and oyster reefs. You’ll help shape and support a pipeline of restoration projects, contribute to communications, and assist with coordination and engagement activities.

Depending on your expertise, you may also contribute to other areas such as marine policy, blue carbon, coastal communities, and marine planning.

Collaboration is key. You’ll work with colleagues across the Environment Agency and external partners like Defra, industry, and academia.

The Team

You’ll join the Estuaries and Coasts Team within our Environment and Business Directorate, leading on the protection and restoration of estuaries and coasts, influencing policy, legislation, and delivery.

We promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued. We’re a dispersed team working nationwide.

Experience and Skills

Education to degree level or relevant professional experience is required. Training and development opportunities will be provided.

Additional Information

Flexible/hybrid working arrangements are supported. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. For queries, contact eve.leegwater@environment-agency.gov.uk.

Applications are assessed via competency questions. Interviews via MS Teams are scheduled for around the second week of September. We may hold your details for 6 months for alternative roles if you consent to being on a reserve list.
