Technical Product Manager

We are a family-owned business based across the North East of England, with over 30 years of experience in the overhead crane engineering industry. We specialise in providing crane installation, repair and maintenance services to a wide range of clients across the North East of England. We are currently looking for a Technical Product Manager with a strong industry background to join our team and help us continue to provide our clients with high‑quality services. This is a very exciting time to join the company with big growth plans, driven by our Crane of the Future technology. We have branches across the North East, so location is flexible. Expectation is that the role will blend office and site work depending on current requirements. There will be some travel but limited based on client needs. The Technical Product Manager is a strategic and highly technical role responsible for driving forward the company's innovation agenda, supporting advanced technical challenges and overseeing key product and service developments – especially within the "crane of the future" portfolio. This role sits completely separate from routine technical operations and focuses instead on company‑wide technical direction, complex project scoping, product leadership and ensuring Towne Lifting maintains the highest engineering and safety standards. The position is primarily office‑based, with site visits conducted as needed for surveys, complex troubleshooting and project support. Key Responsibilities Strategic Technical Leadership
Work closely with the Commercial Director to define, guide and implement the technical direction and innovation strategy of the company. Support leadership in evaluating new technologies, digital solutions and modernisation pathways aligned with the "crane of the future" vision.
Advanced Technical Support
Serve as the senior technical escalation point for office staff, sales teams and customers when facing advanced or non‑standard technical challenges. Participate in customer meetings to validate technical feasibility, provide expert guidance or clarify advanced engineering concepts.
Advanced Project Scoping & Engineering
Lead scoping of complex technical and modernisation projects, including site surveys, risk assessments, system evaluations and solution definition. Prepare or oversee development of design drawings, technical schematics and engineering documentation for advanced solutions. Collaborate with engineering, service and project teams to ensure solutions are practical, compliant and deliverable.
Product Management: Crane of the Future
Technical ownership for the "crane of the future" offerings – including smart systems, IoT integrations, automation, advanced controls and remote monitoring solutions. Provide remote site support and technical oversight for smart‑crane installations, commissioning and ongoing performance analysis.
Technical Standards, Governance & Quality
Help maintain and continuously improve the company's technical standards, ensuring they meet or exceed regulatory requirements (CSA, ASME, OSHA, CMAA, etc.). Support internal training initiatives to elevate the technical capability of staff and enhance company‑wide competency.
