What you'll do
As a Technical Project Manager, you will be the technical lead on cross-functional projects across our business, ensuring food safety, product legality, and quality standards are embedded from concept through to implementation.
In the short to medium term your focus will be to provide technical support for the strategic projects of the Midlands campus and NGS program. This includes overseeing the specification and installation of new equipment in line with food safety legislation, Greggs’ internal standards, and BRCGS requirements. You will identify and manage potential food safety risks, champion a strong food safety culture, and ensure compliance with all technical requirements.
In the medium to longer term this role will provide technical support to strategic projects across all parts of our business, enabling our business to grow whilst ensuring food safety risks are considered and then mitigated / managed.
The role requires regular travel within the UK and occasionally internationally, so a full driving licence and the flexibility to travel is essential. We’re looking for someone with strong leadership skills, deep technical expertise, and a passion for continuous improvement, capable of managing multiple complex projects across a dynamic and evolving supply chain network.
Working closely with the operational teams, the role is responsible for:
- Leading technical aspects of projects from planning through to delivery, ensuring food safety is a top priority.
- Making sure all technical and food safety requirements are built into every project.
- Helping project (and other functional) teams understand and apply food safety standards in their work.
- Promoting a strong food safety culture with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams.
- Working closely with operational teams to support cross functional upstream efficiency projects, ensuring products remain safe, legal, and high quality.
- Ensuring food safety systems are in place and clearly communicated to all relevant teams.
- Helping develop risk assessments (HACCP and allergen) and support site teams in applying them.
- Auditing projects to maintain high standards and drive improvements.
- Supporting harmonisation and consistent ways of working across all sites and regions and where possible across functions.
- Helping develop technical standards to guide project delivery and site practices.
- Coaching teams to keep food safety in mind when making decisions.
- Managing project budgets efficiently, always looking for smarter ways to work.
About you
You will fit right into this role if you:
- Have a Degree in Food Science or equivalent
- HACCP Level 4, Food Safety Level 4 and internal auditing qualification
- Minimum 5 years of food industry experience in a similar/management role
- Practical knowledge of BRCGS Standards, SAP and QMS Systems
- Are a strong leader with Project Management experience
- Can demonstrate excellent organisational and planning skills with strong attention to detail
- Have the proven ability to work cross functionally and collaboratively and able to influence others
- Can multi-task and work with multiple priorities at pace, delivering results within tight timescales
- Have a track record of forming and strengthening trusted relationships with business stakeholders
- Have excellent written & verbal communication skills and the ability to present ideas and opportunities (including using known presentational tools)
- Have advanced IT skills including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Are self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and using own initiative
- Are supportive of an inclusive culture – recognising and valuing that difference is good
