The University of Salford is looking to appoint a skilled and reliable Electrician to join its in-house Estates Maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large, diverse university estate, helping to keep buildings safe, compliant and fully operational for staff, students and visitors. Estates & Facilities provides a comprehensive service across the University, covering maintenance, compliance, capital projects, cleaning, security and caretaking. The maintenance team plays a critical role in ensuring the campus is safe, welcoming and fully functional every day. The Role As qualified electrician with a strong practical background and a positive, customer-focused approach, you will carry out a wide range of planned preventative and reactive electrical works across a varied and interesting estate, including teaching, research, residential and specialist facilities. The role is varied, covering everything from routine inspections, fault finding, repairs and minor installation projects. You will be part of a professional in-house maintenance team consisting of plumbers, electricians and joiners and supported by handypersons, as and when necessary. Typical duties include: Planned preventative maintenance of electrical systems and equipment 415v/230v, including visual substation inspections. Reactive electrical repairs and fault diagnosis across electrical systems (predominantly small power and lighting). Minor installation works such as new electrical supplies, single phase/ 3 phase circuitry. Supporting the wider University with regards to electrical safety & controls through safe maintenance practices Working independently or as part of a wider trades team, depending on the task Collaborating with plumbers, joiners, handypersons and external contractors where required Participating in the trades out-of-hours emergency call-out rota All work must be undertaken in line with University procedures, statutory requirements and health and safety legislation, ensuring buildings remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose. Essential requirements: City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installations Ability to work competently on both planned and reactive maintenance tasks Ability to carry out installation works on single and three phases electrical systems Good understanding of Health and Safety practices Willingness to undertake and support minor joinery and plumbing tasks where required Ability to work independently, manage workloads and prioritise tasks effectively Strong communication skills and a professional, courteous approach when dealing with building users You will be required to present your qualification certificates or a CSCS Gold Card at application stage and interview.
