As the VP of Operations you will be responsible for the operational management, deployment, and readiness of all company fielded capabilities including radar systems, cameras, sensors, communications, and power infrastructure across fixed, mobile, aerial, and rapidly deployable platforms. This is a senior engineering leadership role requiring a technical background and the willingness to work hands-on in the field when needed. You will combine strategic oversight with direct engineering involvement across installation, testing, troubleshooting, and complex site surveys. You will lead the operational engineering function, contribute to future system design, and ensure configuration control and high quality delivery across all customer deployments. The role demands strong engineering intuition, operational judgement, and the ability to work end-to-end across the deployment life cycle. This position requires full time onsite presence and regular travel across the UK and overseas.
Leadership & Management Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop the Operational Engineering Team, including hiring, performance management, training pathways, and skills development. Manage resource planning, deployment readiness, scheduling, and project execution across multiple concurrent programmes. Drive operational discipline, continuous improvement, and alignment with company values: trustworthiness, transparency, speed, and agility. Build a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence within the engineering organisation.
Technical Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end planning and delivery of operational engineering activities to meet customer requirements across surveillance, monitoring, communications, power, and logistics. Ensure compliance with working-at-height processes and all relevant safety standards. Engage with OEMs to track technical developments, influence product evolution, and ensure compatibility with future system architecture. Oversee robust integration of hardware components with the company's software platforms and data systems. Provide engineering input into system design reviews, technical proposals, and roadmap planning.
Operational Responsibilities
Maintain two engineering sub-teams at full operational readiness - trained, equipped, and able to deploy at short notice. Oversee design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of all deployed hardware assets. Conduct and support domestic and international site surveys, including assessments of power, telecoms, networking, and environmental requirements. Assist in evaluating and negotiating UK and overseas locations, permissions, and regulatory considerations. Workhands on when required, including:
First time installations System testing and validation Onsite troubleshooting Field support during critical deployments
Collaborate closely with technology teams under the CTO to ensure seamless system integration and deployment readiness.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential
BEng/MEng or MSc in Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline. Strong leadership, organisational capability, and operational management experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Electronics experience and strong technical problem solving ability. Software proficiency (Windows, basic Linux, remote access, communication protocols). Experience in power systems, telecoms, or networking (any relevant area). Hands on engineering capability, from installation to survey and troubleshooting. Willingness to travel extensively across the UK and internationally. Full UK driving licence.
Desired
Networking experience (LTE, router configuration, RMS systems). Familiarity with camera hardware (specifications, control protocols). Experience with ISO45001 (occupational health & safety) and AS9100 (aerospace design & manufacture). Coding knowledge (SQL, Python). Engineering design or manufacture experience (CAD, fabrication).
