Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: To converse with and take a personal interest in residents, building an understanding of their individual likes, dislikes, backgrounds and cultural preferences. To demonstrate an understanding of the challenges and sensitivities of working in a care home environment, including residential and dementia care, while promoting the B&M Rose Model of Dementia Care. To be mindful that mealtimes are one of the highlights of a resident's day and to deliver meals in a way that respects, promotes and enhances this experience. To be responsible for the delivery of excellence in relation to mealtimes, including dining room experience, presentation and atmosphere. To support the Head Cook in compiling seasonal menus with input from residents, families, senior staff and the Home Manager, ensuring menus are varied, culturally inclusive and suitable for individual dietary needs. To cater for special diets, allergies, nutritional requirements, complex diagnoses and medical histories, including the presentation of soft diets in an appetising and appropriate manner. To support the Head Cook by maintaining accountability for food standards and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. To ensure the cleanliness and hygienic appearance of the kitchen, monitoring standards regularly in line with company policy. To conduct audits to ensure kitchen cleanliness and to support the kitchen team where improvements are required. To manage and develop the kitchen team, including supervision, appraisals and the induction of new team members. To ensure effective communication within the role by completing all required documentation daily in line with policies and procedures. To maintain accurate records relating to the efficient and effective running of the kitchen. To monitor stock levels, ensuring ingredients are available, correctly stored and replenished in accordance with hygiene standards and weekly menu requirements. To ensure the cooking and food preparation areas remain clean, tidy and compliant with hygiene regulations at all times. To ensure effective financial controls are followed, adhering to budgets set by the company. To participate in meetings with residents and relatives, gathering feedback to ensure service quality and a calm, pleasant dining environment. To work in line with the company's culture and ethos, promoting Commitment, Connection and Compassion within daily duties. To keep up to date with best practices and techniques related to cooking for residents, including safe defrosting and reheating procedures. To undertake training and development courses to remain compliant with legislation and best practice. To demonstrate a flexible, can-do attitude, supporting home functions and festive occasions when required. To be aware of health and safety rules relating to kitchen practice, including the location and correct use of fire blankets and fire extinguishers. Skills, Characteristics and Experience Experience and understanding of managing budgets within company expectations. Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 or above.
