Position Summary The Consultant Psychologist will be responsible for providing and developing the clinical psychology service for the Melville inpatient unit – a 12‑bedbed regional unit for young people aged 12‑18 with severe and complex mental health presentations. The role also includes oversight of Lothian over‑and‑under‑12 day services and strategic involvement in the review and development of Tier 4 CAMHS service provision. Responsibilities

Provide and develop the clinical psychology service for the Melville inpatient unit and Lothian day services. Support the strategic development of Tier 4 CAMHS services at local, regional and national levels. Facilitate staff training and support the delivery of evidence‑based, person‑centred care for young people with complex presentations and their families. Ensure alignment of services with future inpatient unit national specifications.

Qualifications & Experience

Extensive experience working with young people aged 12‑18 who present with complex mental health conditions (e.g., psychosis, trauma, eating disorders). Strong clinical expertise and enthusiasm for training and developing other staff. Demonstrated capacity to work strategically at local, regional and national levels. Current PVG Scheme membership or eligibility to complete required criminal record checks.

Legal & Training Requirements

Must hold a PVG Scheme membership/record for the required regulatory group. Post may require a different level of criminal record check due to legislative changes effective 1 April 2025.
