Role Overview
The Account Director will play a senior, client-facing role with responsibility for managing and growing a portfolio of predominantly property owner and real estate clients. This position requires a proven insurance professional with 5–10 years’ experience, strong market relationships, and the ability to lead, mentor, and support junior team members while contributing strategically to business growth.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Lead the placement and management of commercial insurance programmes, including but not limited to:
o Property Owners
o Commercial Combined
o Office, Retail, and Real Estate Portfolios
o Household, Travel, and Motor Fleet (where applicable)
· Take ownership of a large and complex client portfolio, typically comprising medium to large corporate and property-focused clients.
· Act as the primary client relationship lead, delivering a high-touch advisory service.
· Negotiate and place renewals directly with insurers and underwriters, leveraging market relationships to secure optimal terms and coverage.
· Oversee renewals, mid-term adjustments, claims liaison, premium collection, and general servicing standards across the portfolio.
· Provide mentorship and day-to-day guidance to Account Executives and junior team members, supporting their development and workload management.
· Support senior leadership (including the CEO) with portfolio oversight, insurer relationships, and strategic initiatives.
· Assist with financial oversight, including debtors, insurer statements, and premium reconciliation, in collaboration with accounts teams.
· Ensure full compliance with FCA requirements, including issuance of proposal forms, TOBAs, and client documentation.
· Identify cross-selling and up-selling opportunities across the wider client base.
Candidate Profile
· 5–10 years’ experience within the commercial insurance broking sector, with strong exposure to property owners and real estate risks.
· Proven experience managing medium to large client portfolios and complex insurance programmes.
· Demonstrable managerial or supervisory experience, including mentoring or leading junior staff.
· Strong technical knowledge of commercial insurance products and placement strategies.
· Experience using Acturis.
· Confident communicator with the ability to build long-term relationships with clients, insurers, and stakeholders.
· Commercially minded, proactive, and comfortable operating in a senior, client-facing role.
· Professional, credible, and consultative approach to business development.
