About The Role
As Area Manager, you will play a critical role in overseeing a group of nurseries within the Cherubs Nurseries group. Your leadership, experience and drive will be essential in ensuring our nurseries meet the highest standards of care, safety and education - whilst achieving financial goals and maintaining regulatory compliance.

What You’ll Be Doing…
Child-centric
- Oversee the management/operation of 2-4 (dependent on size/amount of places) nurseries within your region, ensuring that each nursery delivers the quality care and education we expect.
- Ensure full compliance with all policies and procedures, upholding the highest standards across your nurseries. Regularly benchmarking each nursery against this through thorough and objective audit and inspection.
- Complete peer on peer, room observations and joint observations to monitor practice and drive continuous improvement.
- Take an active role in the implementation and review of Cherubs Nurseries policies and procedures, informing the HoDs from a nursery-level perspective.
- Ensure the Cherubs Nurseries mission, vision and values are well-implemented across your nurseries.
- Ensure the Cherubs Nurseries approach and curriculum is well-implemented and visible across your nurseries.
- Support in the effective marketing and community engagement of your nurseries, whether that be flyering, attending events or visiting the local residential home.
- Hold monthly meetings with individual nursery management teams to prioritise support and ensure the nursery is operating safely and sustainably.
- Regularly report to HoDs, CEO and Board of Directors as to the progress of your nurseries, sharing KPIs and other relevant insight to assist in the wider running of the business.
- Oversee financial performance, maximising revenue and controlling expenses to ensure the financial health and sustainability of each nursery.
- Ensure each nursery maintain Ofsted “Good” or higher ratings, and drive continuous improvement across the nurseries.
- Complete “mock” audits alongside Givens and other compliance audits to prepare your nurseries and drive continuous improvements.
- Assist in the recruitment of nursery teams - taking part in the employee lifecycle to drive results for the business.
- Ensure Designated Roles at each nursery are always filled and have an experienced Educator in-post. Where needed, provide coaching and CPD opportunities to ensure these individuals can fulfil the needs of the role.
- Provide short-term Manager relief/cover for your nurseries when required. For example, last-minute absence or annual leave. You may also be required to be the Ofsted “named person” to cover gaps as part of the recruitment process.
- Be the second port of call for parent concerns or complaints - effectively liaising with the Nursery Manager, Parent Experience Team and Early Years HoDs to bring about a positive resolution and minimise trends from occurring.
- Support Nursery Managers and their teams with succession planning and develop outstanding performers into more senior positions.
- Be the driving force behind nursery action plans ensuring these are prioritised, shared with the team and achieved in a timely manner.
- Support the People Team in conducting performance-related meetings when needed.
- Provide onboarding, training, guidance and support to Nursery Managers and their teams, helping them achieve their goals and give all children the best start in life.
- Promote a positive and progressive culture that values our people, supports their development and builds strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Level 3 (or equivalent) Early Years Qualification
- Level 5 in Leadership and Management
- At least 3-years working as part of a nursery or early years setting at leadership level.
- Proven ability in staff leadership, service planning, compliance and continuous improvement.
- Experience working with a wide range of external agencies such as Ofsted, Local Authorities
- You must be a car driver, with access to your own vehicle. Business travel will be required for this role.
We acknowledge that this role can accommodate flexible/hybrid working. Up to 1-day per week could be done away from the office, with flexible start and finish times. This is dependent on hours and working pattern.
