Assembly Technician Location: Farnborough Travel: Office based with infrequent site installation We are seeking an Assembly Technician to join an engineering team in Farnborough, supporting the build and installation of bespoke automated machinery. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical, electrical, or multi-skilled technician who enjoys building machines and working from technical drawings within a workshop environment. The role will primarily involve assembling automated equipment in the workshop, with occasional travel to customer sites to assist with installation once machines have been built and tested. The role of Assembly Technician includes: Working alongside engineers and technicians, you will be responsible for assembling special purpose automated machinery from engineering drawings and build documentation. Machines are designed and built in-house as bespoke, one-off automation systems, giving technicians the opportunity to work closely with engineers and see projects develop from initial build through to installation. Key Responsibilities for Assembly Technician * Assemble automated machinery from technical drawings and engineering instructions. * Build aluminium machine frames and mechanical structures. * Assemble mechanical sub-assemblies and machine modules. * Install and connect pneumatic components and air systems. * Integrate automation components and mechanical systems. * Assist with electrical wiring and machine connections where experience allows. * Support machine testing prior to delivery. * Travel occasionally to customer sites to support installation and setup. Machines will normally already be assembled and tested in the workshop before installation, so the site work is typically focused on positioning, connecting and commissioning the equipment. The machinery may include components such as: * Aluminium extrusion machine frames * Pneumatic cylinders and valves * Sensors and safety devices * Conveyors and mechanical handling systems * Servo motors and drives * Industrial robots or robotic cells * Linear motion systems (rails, actuators, slides) * Electrical control panels and cabling * Pick-and-place mechanisms Applications are welcome from candidates with mechanical, electrical or electro-mechanical backgrounds, including: * Machine builders * Mechanical assembly technicians * Electrical technicians * Automation technicians * Multi-skilled technicians Skills & Experience reqyuired for Assembly Technician include: * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and assembly instructions * Experience assembling machinery, mechanical systems or automated equipment * Experience working with mechanical assemblies and pneumatic systems * Electrical wiring experience is beneficial but not essential * Practical hands-on engineering skills * Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites for machine installation Opportunity This role offers the chance to work on bespoke automated machinery, building complex, innovative equipment within a collaborative engineering environment and occasionally supporting installations at customer sites.
