Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum\n Location: Portsmouth\n Sector: Construction / Main Contracting\n Contract Type: Permanent\n\nA well‑established regional contractor in Portsmouth is seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an AQS looking to take the next step in their career, gain exposure to full project lifecycle management, and develop under experienced commercial leaders.\n\nThe Role\n\nAs an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team across a variety of construction projects, helping manage costs, procurement, and financial reporting. You'll work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Site Teams, and Estimators while building the technical skills needed to progress toward a full QS position.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nAssist in preparing cost plans, valuations, and final accounts\nSupport procurement activities, tender analysis, and subcontractor appointments\nMonitor project costs and update commercial reports\nHelp manage variations, change control, and cashflow forecasts\nUndertake site visits and liaise with site teams to gather accurate commercial data\nAssist senior QS team members with commercial administration and contract management\nMaintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners\n\nRequirements\n\nExperience as an Assistant QS or Trainee QS within construction\nUnderstanding of basic commercial processes and construction contracts\nExcellent numerical, analytical, and organisational skills\nStrong communication and willingness to learn\nDegree or diploma in Quantity Surveying or similar ()\nProficient with Microsoft Excel and commercial software\n\nWhat's on Offer\n\nCompetitive salary up to £45,000 per year\nClear progression route toward full Quantity Surveyor\nOngoing training, mentorship, and professional development\nSupportive team and exposure to varied project types\nStable workload with a respected regional business
