My Client is a leading main contractor specialising in high-quality residential, mixed-use, and commercial developments across the UK. With a strong pipeline of projects and a reputation for delivering complex schemes safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards, they are looking to strengthen our commercial team with the appointment of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor based on site in Manchester.

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of a major project in Manchester. Working closely with the Senior Quantity Surveyor and wider project team, you will assist in ensuring that project costs are controlled, subcontractor packages are managed effectively, and commercial performance is maximised.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation and management of subcontract packages from procurement through to final account

Support the preparation of interim valuations and cost reports

Monitor project costs and track variations

Assist with the assessment and processing of subcontractor applications and payments

Help prepare tender documentation and analyse subcontractor returns

Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation

Work closely with site and project management teams to ensure cost efficiency and value

Support the commercial team with forecasting and reporting

Requirements

Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline

1–3 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveying or Assistant Quantity Surveyor role (main contractor experience preferred)

Strong numerical and analytical skills

Good knowledge of construction processes and commercial management

Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

Excellent communication and organisational skills

Ability to work effectively within a site-based team environment

Ambition to develop professionally and progress within the commercial function
