Job Description You will take the lead engineering role in managing the Mechanical design team for Egis Transportation in the UK. Supporting the growth of Mechanical design services across the UK and internationally, you will ensure compliance with engineering standards, client requirements and legislation. You will be based in our London office. Responsibilities
Recruiting and mentoring junior engineers to support the growth of the Egis team. Act as Mechanical CRE on rail projects, responsible for technical mechanical deliverables. Plan and coordinate mechanical design team activities (CAD/BIM, engineers, expert resources). Liaise with client teams, represent design teams in meetings, provide technical opinion or support. Review design documentation to ensure compliance to standards and client requirements. Implement industry standards and maintain quality of engineering deliverables. Coordinate quality aspects of mechanical sub‑systems deliverables as per the project Quality Management plan principles. Review and approve all deliverables, acting as a technical control level across projects. Maintain and develop competency within your discipline, including competence assessment, professional reviews, training plans, guidance and mentoring. Support senior team in implementing safety assurance processes (CDM, CSM‑RA, interoperability) and Verification and Validation (V&V) technical assurance. Promote sustainable design and development (Eco‑Design). Encourage innovation.

Qualifications Essential
BSc or equivalent in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject. Chartered Engineer/Technician membership or equivalent professional status. Extensive experience as a Contractor’s Responsible Engineer or Engineering Manager in major infrastructure/transportation projects. Strong communication skills for programme delivery. Project and team‑running experience in UK consultancy, client or contractor organisations. Excellent relationship management and negotiation skills. Excellent engineering, analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Experience working in an engineering production environment. Good knowledge of UK design standards such as Network Rail, HS2, TfL and National Highways. Excellent management skills for supporting, mentoring and animating a team. Excellent knowledge of regulations (CDM, CSM, RIR).
Desirable
Excellent knowledge of railway infrastructure/Highways systems. Understanding of interdisciplinary within rail or Highways environment. Experience in design and build projects. Clear understanding of a multi‑disciplinary design approach and quality delivery throughout design stage gates. Experience with offshore global design production centres. Appreciation of environmental issues, including low‑carbon design. Knowledge of BIM standards and integration procedures. Knowledge of quality assurance.
