Job Description
A leading building services consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate Mechanical Engineer to join its senior management team. This role is ideal for an engineer who combines strong technical expertise with proven leadership capability and a commitment to delivering high-quality, innovative design solutions.\n\nAbout the Role\n\nAs an Associate, you will take on a significant leadership position, managing a team of engineers and overseeing their workload, development, and overall wellbeing. Alongside team management, you will lead multiple projects, taking responsibility for management, resource planning and ensuring successful, timely delivery.\n\nYou will also act externally as a representative of the business, leading client meetings, contributing to presentations, and playing a key role in developing and maintaining strong client relationships.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLeadership & Team Management\n\nLead, mentor and support a team of engineers, managing day-to-day workload and professional development.\n\t\nFoster a positive, high-performing team culture.\n\t\nContribute to company-wide labour forecasting and resource planning.\n\nProject Delivery & Technical Leadership\n\nServe as Project Lead on multiple schemes, managing fees, resources, timelines and project delivery.\n\t\nLead engineering design and coordinate building services across all project stages.\n\t\nProvide technical guidance, develop innovative solutions and contribute to technical knowledge development within the team.\n\nClient & Business Engagement\n\nAttend and lead external client meetings, presentations and design reviews.\n\t\nBuild and maintain strong client and architect relationships.\n\t\nIdentify new business opportunities and support wider business development efforts.\n\nCompliance, Standards & Innovation\n\nEnsure all engineering designs meet building regulations, planning requirements, British Standards and CIBSE guidelines.\n\t\nDemonstrate awareness of current trends in environmental design and sustainability.\n\t\nPromote internal processes, support CPD, and uphold the organisation’s culture and values.\n\nRequirements\n\nMinimum 8 years’ experience as a building services engineer.\n\t\nChartered Engineer (CIBSE, IMechE or IET).\n\t\nDegree in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or similar).\n\t\nStrong understanding of building regulations, planning policy and sustainability.\n\t\nProficiency with IES and AutoCAD, plus experience using Revit/BIM.\n\t\nDemonstrated experience managing junior engineers and leading multidisciplinary projects.\n\t\nAbility to manage project finances and resources effectively.\n\t\nStrong communication, leadership and organisational skills.\n\t\nCommercial awareness with the ability to build lasting client relationships.\n\nDesirable\n\nExperience successfully managing a full engineering team, demonstrating strong results in project profitability, client satisfaction and staff development.\n\nWhat’s on Offer\n\nThis opportunity offers the chance to join a senior leadership environment where you’ll influence technical direction, contribute to strategic growth and oversee the delivery of high-quality engineering design across a diverse project portfolio
