Associate Mechanical Director – Data Centre Design



We are seeking an accomplished Associate Mechanical Director to lead the delivery of large‑scale, technically complex data centre design projects. This senior leadership role offers the opportunity to guide a multi‑disciplinary engineering team, strengthen client relationships, influence business strategy, and elevate technical excellence across mission‑critical mechanical systems.


The Opportunity

You will oversee mechanical design delivery for major data centre developments, ensuring exceptional quality, technical robustness, and coordinated engineering outputs. Alongside project leadership, you will contribute to the long‑term growth of the business, driving financial performance, operational efficiency and a high‑performance team culture.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Technical Delivery

  • Lead teams delivering mechanical design for complex data centre projects, ensuring high standards of technical accuracy and integration.
  • Provide guidance, direction and expert decision‑making on escalated or complex engineering challenges.
  • Oversee overall project performance, coordination and quality of mechanical engineering output.


Strategic, Commercial & Operational Accountability

  • Drive financial performance across your area, ensuring strong profit generation and healthy cash flow.
  • Support wider business strategy by contributing to long‑term plans for organisational growth and operational improvement.
  • Assist in procuring new work, including involvement in high‑value client or supplier negotiations.


People Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor, develop and lead mechanical engineers at all levels, creating a supportive and high‑performing team environment.
  • Contribute to recruitment, performance reviews, staff development planning and capability building.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback and promote a culture of integrity, respect, inclusion and continuous improvement.

Skills & Competencies

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Deep technical expertise in mechanical design for data centres or other mission‑critical environments.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including understanding project financials and contractual considerations.
  • Excellent planning, decision‑making and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Proven ability to nurture client relationships and deliver high‑quality consultancy services.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead teams, collaborate effectively and foster a positive working culture.
