Job Description
AWS Architect (Contract)
Location: Knutsford (2 days onsite, non-consecutive)
Contract Length: Until 31 August 2026
Engagement: PAYE via Umbrella
BPSS eligibility is required for this role.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced AWS Architect to lead the design and delivery of large-scale, cloud- solutions within a complex enterprise environment. This role is ideal for a hands-on architect with deep AWS expertise who thrives in distributed systems, DevOps culture, and Agile delivery models.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement resilient, scalable, and observable distributed systems
Define cloud- strategies and enterprise AWS architectures
Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
Produce high-quality technical designs, reference architectures, and reusable patterns
Drive DevOps adoption, CI/CD pipelines, and automation initiatives
Lead, mentor, and guide teams working within Agile frameworks
Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards and best practices
Required Experience & Skills
9+ years' experience in Cloud Architecture and Distributed Systems
Strong hands-on expertise with AWS (IaaS, PaaS, Serverless, Containers)
Container orchestration using Kubernetes/EKS, Docker
Database experience with PostgreSQL and NoSQL solutions (DynamoDB, DocumentDB)
Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and GitLab CI/CD
Microservices, API-first, and event-driven architectures
Hands-on experience with the Kafka ecosystem
Observability and monitoring using ELK and related tooling
CI/CD tooling including Jenkins and GitLab
Soft Skills
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
Experience working with global, distributed engineering teams
Nice to Have
Financial services or payments domain experience
Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks (eg TOGAF)
Experience with JIRA and Confluence
AWS Certification (Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional)
