Founding Backend Engineer | PostgreSQL, GCP & Distributed Systems | AI Music Creation Platform

Salary: £60,000-£100,000

The Role

You’ll join a small founding team building a browser-based platform designed to make creating music as universal as listening.

The product already has 100,000+ users and over 1M songs created. As the Founding Backend Engineer, you’ll own the backend systems powering payments, collaboration, and media infrastructure as the platform scales to millions of users.

What They’re Looking For (Non-Negotiables)

You’re a backend engineer who enjoys designing systems properly and taking ownership of production infrastructure.

You will likely bring experience with:

• PostgreSQL / SQL database design, schema architecture, indexing, migrations

• NoSQL databases such as Firestore

• Database migrations from NoSQL to relational systems

• REST API design for high concurrency

• Stripe payments and subscription systems (RevenueCat beneficial)

• Docker containerisation and CI/CD pipelines

• Cloud infrastructure such as GCP or AWS

• Media pipelines, CDN delivery, and large file uploads

• Monitoring, logging, and production reliability

Nice to Haves

• ElasticSearch or search databases

• Vector databases or semantic search systems

• WebSockets or real-time collaboration systems

• Next.js server-side rendering exposure

• Analytics tooling such as PostHog or Axiom

• Music production experience using DAWs such as Ableton or Logic
