Backend Engineer (AI/LLM) | Contract | London | 3 days onsite


We're hiring backend engineers for a high-impact contract with a major UK business. If you've built real AI-powered systems in production, not just played with APIs, we want to talk.


The role You'll be embedded in a fast-moving team building intelligent workflow automation. Think event-driven architecture, cloud-native infrastructure, and LLM integrations that actually have to work under pressure. The core orchestration layer is built on n8n, with Slack as the primary editor interface and WordPress as the CMS, so you'll be stitching these together with real production rigour.


You'll need

  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals (Python and/or TypeScript/Node)
  • AWS hands-on experience: Bedrock, Secrets Manager, Lambda
  • Production LLM/AI integration experience: evals, prompt engineering, handling unpredictable model behaviour
  • REST API fluency: you've integrated messy third-party APIs and made them behave
  • Experience building Slack bots or Block Kit interfaces is a strong plus

  • What separates great candidates

    • You've shipped AI features in anger, not just in a notebook
    • You're comfortable with webhooks, async patterns, and stateful workflows
    • n8n or similar orchestration tools (Make, Zapier at scale), you know the tradeoffs
    • You thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments: discovery phases don't faze you
    • You're pragmatic, not precious
