In this role, youll provide and supervise the delivery of high standards of nursing care for the treatment and support of individuals experiencing substance dependency.Working both autonomously and collaboratively, you will deliver holistic, evidence-based care, ensuring that all interventions meet national clinical guidelines, Forward Trust policies, and the highest standards of professional practice.Youll play a key role in medical assessments, detoxification monitoring, crisis intervention, and ongoing physical and psychological health support, all within a health improvement and recovery-focused framework.Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Substance Misuse Nurse, you will:Deliver comprehensive nursing assessments and brief interventions for clients presenting with substance misuse issuesSupport clients through medically assisted detoxification and ongoing treatment regimes, monitoring progress and wellbeingWork within a multidisciplinary team including GPs, psychiatrists, recovery workers, and counsellorsProvide crisis intervention and triage for medical assessment where requiredEnsure the safe storage, administration, and recording of medicines, including controlled drugsMaintain accurate clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational standardsPromote health improvement and behaviour change, encouraging clients toward healthier, more sustainable lifestylesMaintain confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity at all timesParticipate in supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing professional developmentAbout YouWe are looking for a skilled and compassionate registered nurse who is committed to providing high-quality care in the field of substance misuse and recovery.Essential Skills and Experience:Registered Nurse (NMC PIN required)Sound clinical knowledge and the ability to work autonomously within a multidisciplinary teamStrong assessment and risk management skillsExperience in key working and care planningUnderstanding of the Recovery Model (including 12-Step approaches)Awareness of health issues relating to substance misuseRobust knowledge of medication administration, including controlled drugs and medication roundsExcellent time management, organisational, and IT skillsDemonstrable experience of accurate record-keeping and compliance with clinical standardsAbility to treat service users with dignity, respect, and empathy, building constructive therapeutic relationshipsUnderstanding of infection control and health & safety reporting proceduresEvidence of ongoing professional development since qualificationAbout UsWe are The Forward Trust, the social enterprise with charitable status that empowers people to break the often interlinked cycles of crime and addiction to move forward with their lives.
