️ Job Specification: Class 2A / 2B / 2D Registered Building Inspector\n\nLocation: London & South East Employment Type: Full‑time Registration Required: Class 2A, 2B or 2D (Building Safety Regulator)\n\n Role Purpose\n\nDeliver high‑quality, compliant building control services across London and the South East. You will carry out plan assessments and site inspections within the scope of your Class 2A, 2B or 2D registration, ensuring building work meets the requirements of the Building Regulations and contributes to safe, sustainable development.\n\n Key Responsibilities\n\nPlan Assessment\n\nReview plans, specifications and supporting documents for Building Regulations compliance.\n\nProvide clear, timely technical feedback to clients, designers and contractors.\n\nIdentify non‑compliance and advise on acceptable solutions.\n\nSite Inspections\n\nConduct inspections at key construction stages.\n\nRecord findings accurately and maintain digital inspection logs.\n\nEscalate safety concerns or regulatory breaches in line with BSR requirements.\n\nRegulatory Compliance\n\nOperate strictly within the building categories permitted by your registration class.\n\nMaintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Building Regulations, Approved Documents and BSR guidance.\n\nEnsure all work aligns with the Building Inspector Competence Framework (BICoF).\n\nClient & Stakeholder Engagement\n\nProvide professional advice to homeowners, developers, architects and contractors.\n\nRepresent the organisation during meetings, site visits and regulatory discussions.\n\nBuild strong working relationships across the construction supply chain.\n\nReporting & Documentation\n\nPrepare inspection reports, compliance notes and decision records.\n\nContribute to audit processes and quality assurance reviews.\n\nMaintain accurate, secure records in accordance with BSR requirements.\n\n Essential Qualifications & Requirements\n\nRegistered Building Inspector (RBI) with the Building Safety Regulator.\n\nValid Class 2A, 2B or 2D registration.\n\nDemonstrable competence in relevant building categories.\n\nStrong understanding of Building Regulations and associated guidance.\n\nFull UK driving licence and willingness to travel across London & the South East.\n\n Desirable Experience\n\nExperience within a local authority or approved inspector environment.\n\nFamiliarity with digital building control systems.\n\nMembership of a professional body (e.g., CABE, RICS, CIOB).\n\nExperience with complex or multi‑disciplinary construction projects.\n\n Key Skills & Attributes\n\nExcellent technical judgement\n\nStrong communication and report‑writing skills\n\nAbility to manage workload independently\n\nProfessional integrity and regulatory awareness\n\nConfidence in challenging unsafe or non‑compliant work\n\n Typical Work Areas by Class\n\nClassTypical Building TypesExamples\n2ALow‑rise domesticHouses, small extensions, simple refurbishments\n2BMore complex residentialFlats, maisonettes, small apartment blocks\n2DLarger non‑domesticSchools, offices, retail units, warehouses\n\n Benefits Package\n\n25 days annual leave plus bank holidays\n\nTraining through registrations (CABE or Total Training)\n\nAnnual discretionary bonus\n\nCycle to Work Scheme\n\nAdditional benefits available as part of a growing, supportive team environment
