Role Summary Birmingham Airport is seeking a proactive and highly skilled Business Continuity Manager to ensure the airport’s ability to maintain safe, secure, and efficient operations during disruptions, emergencies, or crises. This pivotal role safeguards critical airport functions—from passenger services and airside operations to security and IT systems—by developing, implementing, and testing robust continuity strategies. Acting as a central coordinator across departments, you will ensure our resilience planning aligns with regulatory requirements, industry best practice, and international aviation standards. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in strengthening the operational resilience of one of the UK’s busiest airports. Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain the airport’s business continuity framework in line with aviation regulations and best practice. Lead risk assessments and business impact analyses across terminals, airside operations, cargo, and IT systems. Coordinate continuity planning with airlines, ground handlers, emergency services, government agencies, and other key stakeholders. Manage crisis response exercises and simulations to test preparedness and enhance organisational resilience. Provide leadership during disruptions, acting as the continuity lead within the Airport Control Centre or crisis command environment. Oversee training and awareness programmes to ensure operational teams understand their continuity and recovery responsibilities.
Experience Required
Proven experience in Business Continuity, Risk Management, or Emergency Planning. Background in aviation, transport, or critical infrastructure environments. Strong knowledge of ICAO, IATA, and national aviation regulatory requirements advantageous. Experience leading crisis simulations and coordinating multi‑agency responses. Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience working with airlines (or similar transport providers) emergency services, and government bodies. Professional certification such as CBCI or ISO 22301 Lead Implementer (or equivalent).
