Climate17 is working with a rapidly growing UK energy platform developing and operating flexible generation and storage assets across the UK.


Our client is seeking a senior commercial leader to drive the optimisation strategy, route-to-market performance, and commercial structuring of a portfolio of battery storage and flexible generation assets.


This role sits at the intersection of energy trading, flexibility markets, and commercial strategy, playing a key role in maximising asset value across wholesale and ancillary markets.


The Opportunity


This position will take ownership of the commercial strategy for battery storage and flexible generation assets, developing and executing revenue strategies across GB power markets.


Working closely with trading, technical, and commercial teams, you will structure and negotiate route-to-market arrangements while shaping how assets participate in balancing, ancillary, and flexibility markets.


The role is ideal for someone who understands the commercial optimisation of flexible assets and enjoys operating in a fast-growing energy platform.


Key Responsibilities


Battery Storage & Flexibility Markets


  • Develop and execute commercial strategies for BESS optimisation and flexible generation assets
  • Design revenue optimisation strategies including dispatch optimisation and revenue stacking
  • Manage participation in GB flexibility markets, including balancing services, ancillary markets, and the Capacity Market
  • Support commercial strategies for hybrid assets and co-located renewable and storage projects


Commercial Structuring & Route-to-Market


  • Structure and negotiate commercial agreements including:
  • Optimisation agreements
  • Route-to-market agreements
  • PPAs
  • Tolling arrangements
  • Flexibility services contracts
  • Develop scalable commercial models to maximise long-term asset value


Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement


  • Act as a key commercial interface between trading, commercial, and technical teams
  • Build and maintain relationships with market partners and counterparties
  • Support senior leadership in shaping commercial strategy for the portfolio
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver integrated commercial outcomes


About You


  • 5+ years’ experience in the UK energy sector
  • Strong understanding of GB power markets and flexibility services
  • Experience working with battery storage, flexible generation, or route-to-market optimisation
  • Track record structuring and negotiating complex commercial energy agreements
  • Comfortable working across trading, product, regulatory, and finance functions
  • Experience operating within fast-growth energy companies or scaling platforms
