Overview

We are recruiting for a Buyer to join a busy Procurement Team within a civil engineering / construction environment. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, this role will support the efficient procurement of materials, plant, and services, ensuring best value, supplier performance, and timely delivery across multiple projects.

This is a hands-on role offering exposure to live projects, tender support, and strong progression opportunities within procurement.

Key Responsibilities

* Obtain competitive quotations for construction materials, plant, and services

* Maintain supplier performance records and the approved supplier list

* Support QHSE with supplier audits

* Ensure suppliers operate under agreed commercial trading terms where possible

* Maintain regular communication with internal departments, particularly Contracts and Estimating

* Issue material enquiries from project plans, specifications, and drawings

* Collate and analyse supplier quotations for contracts and tenders

* Provide cost advice to Project Estimators on individual items

* Place orders for materials, services, plant, and equipment from procurement schedules

* Extract global material requirements from tender information

* Support the Senior Buyer with cost analysis, reporting, and scheduling

* Arrange the transfer of materials and plant between sites and Head Office as required

* Drive efficiencies and cost savings across procurement activities

* Provide cover for the Senior Buyer during periods of absence

* Consolidate purchases to achieve economic benefit

* Ensure best value procurement solutions are delivered to the business

* Distribute copy orders and procurement information to sites and stakeholders

* Support the training and development of team members, including apprentices

Skills & Knowledge

* Strong time management and organisational skills

* Understanding of material specifications

* Data analysis and reporting capability

* Knowledge of QHSE legislation and compliance

* Understanding of ISO management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)

* Knowledge of FSC & PEFC chain of custody management systems
