The Role
As a Buyer, you will support the Purchasing Team Leader in managing day-to-day purchasing operations. You will work closely with project teams, build managers, field staff and suppliers to ensure materials, plant, stock and fleet requirements are delivered efficiently, cost-effectively and in line with business needs. You will also support improvements to procurement systems, supplier management processes and overall purchasing performance.
Key Responsibilities
Raise purchase orders and ensure delivery timelines support operational and project requirements.
Monitor order progress, chasing supplier confirmations and overdue deliveries.
Manage plant hire processes, including off-hire activity and accurate record keeping.
Contribute to the improvement and standardisation of purchasing procedures.
Work with managers to align lead times with project forecasts and business priorities.
Resolve procurement issues promptly to minimise operational disruptions.
Source and price materials, plant and services, selecting appropriate suppliers based on cost, quality and performance.
Approve invoices and resolve finance queries with accuracy and professionalism.
Reallocate stock across Stores locations to reduce excess holding.
Support fleet operations including vehicle maintenance, hire vehicles, repairs, fuel cards and administration of fines.
Arrange travel and accommodation for senior management and staff.
Onboard new vendors and subcontractors, completing checks and setting up accounts in systems.
Maintain supplier performance information, insurance records and compliance documents.
Use Navision to manage purchasing activity, orders, data and audit trails.
Support sustainability initiatives and contribute to quarterly procurement meetings.
Provide cover for the Purchasing Team Leader when required.
Support the development of purchasing colleagues through training and collaboration.
Work with HR during contractor recruitment to ensure correct system setup and compliance.
Ensure all procurement activities comply with Clarke policies and client requirements.
What Were Looking For
Essential:
Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
Desirable:
Experience using Navision or similar ERP systems.
Previous experience within the mobile infrastructure or telecoms industry.
