Role OverviewThe Buyer will play a pivotal role in managing key supplier relationships and securing value for money on purchases. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, this role ensures timely supply of components by liaising closely with both UK and Far East suppliers, directly impacting the companys operational efficiency and cost control.ResponsibilitiesManage 2-3 strategic suppliers for direct categories and a selection of indirect suppliers, ensuring value and performance.Monitor component lead times, market trends, shortages, and obsolescence to mitigate supply chain risks.Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve cost savings and improve supplier value.Coordinate delivery schedules, logistics, and resolve supplier-related issues.Collaborate closely with engineering teams to identify approved components and alternative sourcing options.Track and report on key supplier performance metrics including delivery, cost variance, and quality.Maintain accurate records in the ERP system and ensure supplier acknowledgements are received.Manage buying and logistics of consigned items.Evaluate and manage supplier risks effectively to protect business continuity.RequirementsEssential:Minimum two years experience in procurement or buying, preferably within electronics or a related industry.Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.Proficient in ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.Excellent organisational and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.Ability to prioritise multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Experience managing both UK-based and international suppliers, particularly from the Far East.Experience in sourcing direct categories.Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001 and RoHS compliance.Understanding of lead time constraints and strategies to mitigate component shortages.Eligibility to work in the UK without restrictions.Desirable:Experience with global sourcing and Far East supplier management.Knowledge of sourcing indirect categories.CIPS Level 4.Additional InformationThe Buyer role is office-based in Hook, Hampshire, with some hybrid working flexibility considered. The position reports directly to the Procurement Manager and works closely with engineering and sales teams. The company operates in a competitive electronics market, with a focus on innovation and supplier partnership.Salary & Working HoursFull-time position based in Hook, Hampshire, with hybrid flexibility.Standard working hours: 8:30am - 5pm (Monday - Thursday), 8am - 3pm (Friday)Salary range: Circa £35,000 + bonus, generous pension contributions, life assurance, income protection, CIPS training.
