CAD Technician- Mechanical

An established engineering consultancy is seeking to expand its design capability with the appointment of a Mechanical CAD Technician. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with a base in Greater Manchester and project work primarily supporting long-term infrastructure frameworks across the North West of England.

Reporting to a senior regional mechanical lead, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality 3D models and technical drawings to support multidisciplinary engineering projects.

Previous water experience is desirable for this position.

The Role

You will be responsible for the coordination, production, and quality assurance of mechanical design models and drawings, ensuring outputs are suitable for construction and aligned with industry standards.

Key duties include:

Producing detailed 3D models suitable for construction

Preparing comprehensive 2D drawings, including layouts and general arrangements

Undertaking quality checks of models and drawings, maintaining drawing registers and documentation controls

Supporting compliance with relevant health and safety design regulations

Championing digital delivery initiatives within the mechanical design function

Coordinating drawing production with remote and offshore teams

Supporting and mentoring junior team members

Collaborating across multiple technical disciplines to ensure integrated design outputs

Building effective working relationships with internal design teams

About You

Essential experience and skills:

Background in a multidisciplinary engineering environment

Strong 2D drafting capability with relevant qualifications and practical experience

Proven 3D modelling experience

Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and other 3D modelling platforms

Experience using Bentley ProjectWise

Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud

Broad knowledge of common engineering software and IT systems

Understanding of CAD standards and quality assurance processes

Strong attention to detail with the ability to clearly communicate complex design information

Proactive, inquisitive approach with a genuine interest in how engineered structures are assembled

Delivery-focused mindset, able to manage deadlines in a fast-paced project environment
