A well-established architectural practice based in the Midlands is looking for an experienced CDM Principal Designer / Health & Safety Consultant to join its growing specialist team. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a driven individual to play a key role in the continued development of a dedicated CDM function, working across a wide range of projects in both public and private sectors throughout the UK. This position would suit a confident professional who enjoys managing responsibility, contributing strategically, and delivering robust health and safety advice across the full project lifecycle. Responsibilities
Undertaking the role of CDM Principal Designer and providing health and safety advisory services from inception through to completion Managing multiple live projects and prioritising workload effectively Identifying, assessing and mitigating construction‑related risks in line with the principles of prevention Working closely with designers, clients, contractors and other duty holders to embed health and safety into design and delivery Producing and reviewing CDM‑related documentation and technical reports Participating in design reviews, meetings and coordination workshops Providing advice during both design development and construction phases Ensuring clear communication between all parties involved in the project Preparing and maintaining project‑specific health and safety files Supporting administrative and procedural processes within the CDM team
Requirements
A degree or equivalent qualification in a construction, design or health and safety related discipline A recognised construction‑related professional qualification (or demonstrable industry experience) A relevant health and safety qualification such as IOSH and/or APS membership NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate as a minimum Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations and associated guidance Background in design, construction management or consultancy environments Experience coordinating or leading design teams Excellent written and verbal communication skills Confident user of Microsoft Office applications
