Chartered Senior Engineer – Surface & Highways Structures Location: London & across network Employer: Morson Edge – Recruiting on behalf of a major public sector organisation Contract: Long-term contract opportunity Rate: Band 3 (senior level) upto £520 per day umbrella inside ir35 About the Role Morson Edge are proud to partner with a major public sector infrastructure organisation to recruit an experienced Senior Engineer to support the delivery and assurance of complex civil and structural works across their Surface & Highways Structures portfolio.

This is a delivery-focused, site-based engineering role where you will provide technical leadership, undertake independent assurance of permanent works, and guide B3 Engineers across a wide range of structural and highways projects.

Key Responsibilities Lead independent inspection and technical assurance of reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, and highways structures.

Verify permanent works against design, specifications, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).

Oversee and support B3 Engineers and other site-based staff.

Review contractor ITPs, method statements and technical submissions.

Identify, escalate and manage non-conformances and quality issues.

Liaise with design, delivery and assurance teams to resolve technical queries.

Support temporary works processes and TWC/TWS interfaces.

Produce accurate daily shift reports and support engineering handover documentation.

Represent engineering at coordination, quality and readiness meetings.

Essential Experience Strong background in reinforced concrete delivery or inspection.

Experience with structural steelwork installations.

Proven experience in highways structures, waterproofing, and surfacing works.

Knowledge of construction assurance processes and client-side inspection.

Experience reviewing and applying ITPs, RAMS, and technical specifications.

Understanding of temporary works processes (TWC/TWS).

Strong knowledge of relevant engineering standards, legislation, and best practice.

Experience mentoring or supervising engineering staff.

Desirable Experience Experience working as a Works Examiner or similar assurance role.

Experience delivering complex structural steelwork packages.

Qualifications Mandatory Chartered Engineer (CEng) with either: The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), or The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) HNC / BEng / MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).

CSCS card Valid driving licence SSSTS or SMSTS Highly Desirable Confined space training Working at height / harness training CITB Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or evidence of working at that level Why Join? Opportunity to play a key role in delivering essential public infrastructure.
