The successful candidate will be self-driven to lead on the development of patient care and new innovations, across cardiology, respiratory and gastroenterology specialties.

Responsible for delivering the requirements of the key roles outlined in the Matron's Handbook (NHS, 2021) and associated Matron Competencies.

Responsible for senior professional leadership to the nursing workforce within the directorate, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.

To deliver professional and operational priorities and quality improvement programmes supporting the operational management of the Directorate.

Responsible for visible, accessible and strong clinical leadership, patient experience and the delivery of safe, timely, high quality care across the identified clinical areas. Leading on the delivery of National key performance indicators.

Promote/adhere to professional standards of care/professional image of nursing that inspires confidence.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Current NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) First level Registration in General/Adult Nursing
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
  • Recognised Teaching & Assessing Course
  • ILS (Intermediate Life Support) provider
  • 1st Degree level education (or demonstrates ability to study at this level)
  • Leadership course

Skills

  • Able to advise on and systems/ processes and improvements related to the quality and efficiency of care for patients in wards / units and specialities across acute and planned care
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports and present information relevant to sphere of responsibility within agreed timescales
  • Excellent communicator with effective persuasion and negotiation skills and the ability to motivate and influence others
  • Competence in bed management, patient flow and problem solving
  • Ability to problem-solve and make decisions
