Job Title: Clinical Psychologist – Adult ASD Assessments

 

Location: Near Epping, Essex (In-person with some remote report writing)

Contract: Self-Employed / Employed (Sessional or Part-Time, with scope to increase)

Reports to: Clinical Director / Lead Psychologist


About the Service

We are a progressive and growing mental health service providing high-quality psychological and psychiatric care to adults and young people. Our clinic delivers specialist neurodevelopmental assessments, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments for adults, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice, clinical integrity, and patient-centred care.


Role Overview

We are seeking a suitably qualified and HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist to conduct comprehensive adult ASD assessments. The role involves face-to-face assessments near Epping, with flexibility for remote scoring, formulation, and report writing.

This post is ideal for an experienced clinician who values high diagnostic standards and compassionate, neuro-affirmative practice.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive adult ASD diagnostic assessments in line with NICE guidance and best practice.
  • Use recognised diagnostic tools and frameworks (e.g. ADOS-2, ADI-R, clinical interviews, collateral histories).
  • Complete detailed developmental histories and psychosocial assessments.
  • Formulate diagnostic conclusions and provide clear, evidence-based feedback to patients.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Produce high-quality, timely diagnostic reports suitable for clinical, occupational, and statutory use.
  • Ensure reports meet professional, ethical, and organisational standards.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in line with GDPR and HCPC requirements.

Multi-Disciplinary Working

  • Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, therapists, and administrative staff.
  • Contribute to MDT discussions where required.
  • Liaise with referrers and other professionals as appropriate.

Governance & Quality

  • Adhere to HCPC standards of proficiency and professional conduct.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in ASD assessment.
  • Participate in clinical audits, peer review, and supervision as required.


Person Specification

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy or equivalent).
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting adult ASD assessments.
  • Competence in the use of recognised diagnostic tools (e.g. ADOS-2).
  • Strong diagnostic formulation and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
  • Availability to conduct in-person assessments near Epping.

Desirable

  • Additional training or accreditation in ASD assessment tools (e.g. ADOS-2 reliability).
  • Experience working within private practice or neurodevelopmental services.
  • Familiarity with NICE guidelines for ASD in adults.
  • Experience providing post-diagnostic feedback or signposting.
