Commercial Manager – Engineering Projects Barnsley / South Yorkshire Circa £70k + £7k Car Allowance + Bupa + Pension

White Label Recruitment are working with a well-established engineering contractor in South Yorkshire that delivers complex, project-based solutions across infrastructure, heavy engineering and industrial sectors.

The business designs, manufactures and delivers bespoke engineered projects, working on technically challenging projects across the UK alongside Tier 1 contractors and major end users.

Projects are typically large-scale, multidisciplinary engineering programmes involving mechanical, structural and electrical elements, with values ranging from several hundred thousand pounds up to multi-million pound contracts and delivery times often spanning 12–24 months.

Due to continued project activity and growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Manager to take responsibility for the commercial management of projects and provide support across both live contracts and tender activity.

The Role

This position works closely with the project management team and senior leadership to ensure projects are commercially controlled and delivering against financial targets.

Responsibilities will include:

Commercial management of engineering projects from contract award through to completion

*

Working closely with Project Managers to monitor project performance and manage commercial risk

*

Managing compensation events, early warnings and contract changes under NEC contracts

*

Reviewing and negotiating client and supplier terms and conditions

*

Supporting tender submissions and reviewing commercial elements of new contracts

*

Managing payment applications, valuations and cashflow with clients

*

Liaising closely with finance teams regarding project financial performance

*

Producing monthly project status and financial reports

*

Supporting negotiations with clients and suppliers when required

The role involves regular interaction with project teams, senior management and external stakeholders, so strong communication skills are essential.

The Person

We are looking for someone with a strong commercial background within engineering or infrastructure projects.

You are likely to have:

*

Experience as a Commercial Manager, Managing QS or Senior Quantity Surveyor

*

Strong knowledge of NEC contracts is essentual

*

Experience working on project-based engineering or infrastructure contracts

*

Background in sectors such as civil engineering, infrastructure, rail, water, heavy engineering, energy or similar project environments

*

Experience managing commercial aspects of complex, multidisciplinary projects

*

Strong communication skills with the ability to work with senior leadership, engineers, project teams and suppliers

This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a technically focused engineering environment where projects are complex and commercially challenging.
