Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical & Electrical)
Hertfordshire / Cambridge Border
12-Month Contract
We’re looking for a hands-on Commissioning Engineer to support the testing and commissioning of modular systems within a high-tech manufacturing environment. This is a practical, shop-floor-based role ideal for a technician or junior engineer with strong fault-finding skills and a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the commissioning and testing of completed sub-assemblies, ensuring systems are fully functional and meet quality standards before final sign-off.
Day-to-day duties include:
Testing electrical, electronic, and mechanical components of assembled systems Carrying out fault finding and diagnostics Completing electrical safety testing and validation checks Following work instructions and acceptance test procedures Recording results, serial numbers, and test documentation online Ensuring calibrated equipment is used and maintained correctly Supporting packing and release of units following quality control Keeping accurate records (e.g. timesheets, documentation) Working to production timelines and quality expectations
Requirements
HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Experience in commissioning or testing low voltage equipment Background in manufacturing or a regulated environment (desirable) Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems Comfortable using Excel and Microsoft Office High attention to detail with a strong quality mindset
