About the Team


The Competition team is one of the UK's leading antitrust practices, comprising five established non-contentious partners supported by a strong group of experienced lawyers with considerable depth of knowledge across the competition sector. You will work collaboratively with the firm's market-leading competition litigation team, building relationships across multiple departments.


The work spans complex, high-profile matters including competition enforcement, merger control, litigation and counselling. You will advise a broad and varied client base of major corporations across regulated sectors such as energy, financial services, telecoms and rail - including household retailers, social networking platforms and energy suppliers.


This is a platform that offers genuine scope to develop long-term client relationships, strengthen your market profile and play a meaningful role in the continued growth of a highly regarded antitrust practice


The Role


This is a unique opportunity for a Competition Solicitor with 4–5 years' PQE to embed themselves within one of the UK's largest Competition teams, gaining access to high-value non-contentious competition work, an esteemed client base and a progressive career path.


You will advise on a wide range of matters, such as; merger control, foreign direct investment, cartel and behavioural antitrust work, vertical supply-chain strategy and competition-led regulation. This spans areas such as GSCOP, economic regulation across water, energy and telecoms, transport regulation, and antitrust-inspired financial services regulation, including open banking and card payment interchange rules.


Whilst the role is predominantly non-contentious, there will be opportunities to support the wider team and competition litigation department on contentious matters where needed.

As an Associate, you will be a key member of a busy, high-performing and collegiate team. You will work closely with senior solicitors and partners on high-value matters, have support and guidance on developing client relationships and support the future growth of the department.

You will be encouraged to take on responsibility, lead matters, play an active role in business development and support the supervision and development of junior lawyers and trainees - all within a supportive environment that is invested in your future at the firm.


Requirements


  • Be a qualified solicitor with 4 - 5 years' PQE, with strong experience of both merger control and behavioural matters, in the UK and internationally.
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to apply the competition law rules to the commercial fact pattern, considering broader commercial considerations and other legal risks.
  • Confident in contributing to high-value matters.
  • Commercially minded with a genuine interest in business development and client relationship building.
  • Have a commercial flair and acumen and be excited by growth and new ideas.
