The Team
The Risk & Compliance team at EML believes in rolling up their sleeves and getting things done. At EML, we don't subscribe to ivory tower compliance – the organisation seeks a hands-on leader who will engage across the organisation and understand the practical impacts and outcomes of their work.
The Risk & Compliance team at EML is divided into two overarching teams:
Country Risk & Compliance – hold broad responsibilities within their countries/regions and where applicable hold designated titles (such as SMF or PCF designations). They are supported in the execution of their functions and activities by a global team of specialists but maintain ultimate decision-making authority and control via oversight of all parts of programmes and activities that impact on their country/region. Global Risk & Compliance – narrowly focussed specific functions or areas, providing deep subject matter expertise, framework design and execution support and standardisation across the group in the areas of Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management and Strategy, Testing and Assurance, Regulatory Engagement and Reporting, and Privacy and Consumer Protection.
The Compliance Manager – Consumer and Privacy Programmes is a global specialist role, operating and coordinating across multiple jurisdictions and entities to ensure customer- centric and privacy-compliant practices across the business.
The Role
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced individual to lead EML’s global consumer protection and privacy compliance programmes. Based in London or Ireland, this role is critical to ensuring that EML maintains strong compliance with global data protection regulations and consumer protection requirements across all markets.
This role will support the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of frameworks that safeguard consumer rights, ensure responsible data handling practices, and uphold regulatory expectations in every jurisdiction where EML operates.
What You’ll Do
Consumer Protection Programme Management
Design, implement, and maintain a global consumer compliance framework that aligns with applicable regulatory obligations and best practices. Monitor and assess consumer-related regulatory developments across key markets (UK, EU, APAC, and North America). Lead the development of consumer-focused compliance policies, procedures, and controls. Ensure compliance oversight and testing of customer disclosures, product terms, and customer service standards. Support customer complaint handling frameworks, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and escalation processes. Partner with Product and Operations teams to embed consumer protection considerations in design and delivery.
Privacy Compliance Oversight
Serve as the primary contact for all data protection queries and escalations; liaison between all teams and the outsourced Data Protection Officer (“DPO”). Support the DPO and Country Risk & Compliance teams in implementing and enhancing data privacy and protection programmes. Under the support and guidance of the DPO, oversee compliance with key global privacy laws, including GDPR, UK Data Protection Act, CCPA and equivalents. Lead development and execution of privacy risk assessments, DPIAs, and vendor privacy due diligence. Manage the DPO mailbox and respond timely to all privacy matters including data subject access requests (DSARs),data deletion requests and regulator inquiries regarding privacy matters. Promote privacy by design principles in partnership with Product, Tech, and Legal teams. Deliver training programmes to improve awareness and adherence to consumer protection and data privacy requirements.
Stakeholder Management and Reporting
Work closely with senior stakeholders from all three lines of defence to ensure the effective and impactful delivery of consumer compliance programmes. Collaborate with assurance and testing teams to design and execute monitoring and testing activities related to consumer and privacy controls; lead root cause analysis and action plan tracking for findings and control gaps. Develop reporting to senior management and boards on key metrics, incidents, themes, and regulatory developments. Collaborate across functions including Product, Technology, Legal, Operations, and Country Risk & Compliance to embed and support compliance programmes.
What You’ll Bring
Compliance Experience: Experience building and managing consumer or privacy compliance programmes. Experience working with and coordinating outsourced DPO services . Proven ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business solutions Environment: Demonstrable experience in global, matrixed environments, including coordinating across time zones, cultures, and reporting lines; preferably in a payments or fintech environment. Knowledge: Understanding of multiple consumer and data protection regulatory frameworks across key jurisdictions (EU, UK, APAC and US), including the ability to interpret and apply common principles across jurisdictions. Strong knowledge of consumer protection frameworks and global privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR,CCPA). Professional certifications such as from the International Compliance Association (ICA), or other relevant credentials . Technical: Experience with compliance GRC, DPIA, ROPA and privacy management technologies and automation tools.Strong project management skills with experience leading cross-functional initiatives. Team: Strong communication and influencing skills, capable of working with senior leaders across business and risk domains.
