Job Description
Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading construction and development business to appoint a Construction Buyer. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced procurement professional to join a highly reputable business delivering a diverse range of projects across multiple sectors.
The Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in the procurement function, ensuring the timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials, plant, and subcontract services to support project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the end-to-end procurement of construction materials, plant, and services, ensuring alignment with project specifications, timelines, and budget requirements.
Evaluate supplier quotations, negotiate pricing and terms, and secure commercially advantageous agreements in line with internal procurement policies.
Coordinate with operational and commercial teams to ensure procurement activities support project cost plans and delivery programmes.
Plan and forecast material requirements, identifying long-lead or business-critical items and mitigating potential supply risks.
Track market conditions, pricing trends, and supplier performance to identify opportunities for cost efficiencies and improved sustainability.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and key stakeholders across the supply chain.
Source and assess new suppliers to enhance supply chain capability, ensuring compliance with internal approval and governance procedures.
Monitor supplier performance, maintaining accurate records relating to quality, reliability, and service delivery.
Support the continuous improvement of procurement processes, ensuring adherence to quality, environmental, and health & safety management systems.
What you will need to succeed
Previous experience in a buying or procurement role within the construction industry.
Strong negotiation and commercial awareness.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
Proficiency in procurement systems and Microsoft Office packages.
